Formal Living with Layered Lighting

The large octagonal living room was overcrowded with furnishings and collectibles and unused exercise equipment. The only entrance was a small passage between the sofa and guest chairs, and the room felt dark even with the two story windows. Interior designer Angie Palmer designed a formal living room in classic colors with layered lighting for an overall sense of calm and relaxation. We reupholstered the client’s antiques and mixed them with a new sectional and several types and styles of tables in acrylics and soft gold to modernize and elevate the space.

Project Overview:

While the clients wanted a sense of calm, they also requested strong punches of color. They wanted to keep the piano in its same location and also wanted a lot of flexibility with furniture placement for different times of the year.

Angie designed a creamy neutral backdrop with shades of blue, white, and green, and pops of deep navy velvet. We reupholstered a number of the remaining antiques and mixed them with a new sectional.  We replaced the old window shadings with powered thermal shades to cut the heat and glare in the summer months, and to protect the furniture from fading. We also convinced the clients to abandon their old TV technology and replace it with a Samsung Frame TV to showcase an art piece when not in use.
